Toyota and Joby Take Flight: First International Air Taxi Demo Showcases the Future of Clean, Quiet Urban Mobility

Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE:TM) and Joby Aviation (NYSE:JOBY) recently completed Joby’s first international air taxi demonstration flight in Japan at Toyota’s Higashi-Fuji Technical Center in Shizuoka. This flight marked an important milestone in their partnership, which spans nearly seven years. Joby’s electric air taxi, capable of carrying a pilot and four passengers at speeds of up to 200 mph, is designed for quiet, emissions-free travel aimed at reducing urban congestion and offering a sustainable mobility solution.

“Our first overseas flight marks a significant milestone on our journey towards making clean air travel an everyday reality,” said JoeBen Bevirt, Founder and CEO of Joby. “We share Toyota’s vision for the future of mobility and are honored to have had the opportunity to present a glimpse of that future through our flight in Japan.”

This flight follows Toyota’s recent commitment to invest an additional $500 million in Joby, bringing its total investment to $894 million. This funding will support the certification and commercial production of Joby’s aircraft and establish a manufacturing alliance to advance Joby’s commercialization efforts. Toyota engineers are already collaborating with Joby’s team in California, and Toyota will supply key components for Joby’s aircraft production as part of this long-term agreement.
