Stocks making the biggest moves midday: Nvidia, Berkshire Hathaway, Yum China and more

Don’t miss the roster of corporations shaking things up in the midday market:

Nvidia and Sherwin-Williams are thriving, with share prices climbing over 1% and around 3% respectively. This comes on the back of the news of their imminent inclusion in the Dow Jones Industrial Average, due Friday. Nvidia will step in for its competitor, Intel, while Sherwin-Williams takes over from Dow Inc. Intel’s stocks took a hit, slipping over 4%, and Dow Inc. shares also dropped 2.7%.

Warren Buffett’s behemoth, Berkshire Hathaway is in a slump with shares falling almost 3%, after disclosing that its operating earnings dipped about 6% from last year’s third-quarter, falling short of analysts’ expectations.

Talen Energy didn’t fare well either, recording an almost 3% decline in shares. This followed the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s rejection of a power increase request for its Susquehanna nuclear plant. This fallout also affected Constellation Energy and Vistra, whose stocks plummeted around 11% and 3% respectively, on delayed tech deals.

The hospitality giant, Marriott International, also took a hit, with shares receding close to 2% due to discouraging third-quarter earnings and future outlooks.

Contrasting this, Peloton’s stock is on the rise, soaring 4% after an upgrade to ‘Buy’ from ‘Underperform’ by Bank of America, who believe in potential growth under newly appointed CEO, Peter Stern.

Yum China Holdings made waves, securing an 8% surge in shares through a triumphant third-quarter performance.

Fox Corp.’s shares are up by almost 4% following a successful first fiscal quarter that exceeded analysts’ expectations.

Chewy experienced an 8% boost in stock price after the announcement that it will replace Stericycle in the S&P MidCap 400, effective Wednesday.

The New York Times shares took a 6% fall following disappointing third-quarter digital subscriber numbers. Its tech guild has also announced an official strike over unfair labor practice.
