Qualcomm Confirms Samsung and Nubia RedMagic 8S Pro’s SD8G2 Chips are The Same

Qualcomm (QCOM), a leading technology company, has confirmed that Samsung’s SD8G2 for Galaxy and RedMagic 8S Pro’s SD8G2 Leading Version are the same variant. This confirmation came after the Samsung Galaxy S23 Series was revealed to utilize the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, which was initially claimed to be a Samsung custom chip.

The standard Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 carries a part number of SM8550-AB, while the Galaxy version has a unique part number of SM8550-AC. However, despite these differences, each variant has different CPU and GPU frequencies. Interestingly, the Nubia RedMagic 8S Pro’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Leading Version shares the same part number and frequencies as Samsung’s variant, a fact that was discovered by XDA Developer.

Qualcomm’s statement supports XDA Developer’s theory that the SoC on various Samsung devices are the same as the Nubia RedMagic 8S Pro’s, hinting at the possibility of more smartphones with the same chipset being launched this year.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which is expected to power the Galaxy S23 series, has been spotted on Geekbench and in the upcoming Nubia phone, the Z40 Pro. In terms of performance, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 surpasses the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, a fact that is evident from its impressive Geekbench scores.
