Meta Joins The AI Chatbot Race to Rival Chat GPT

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, has announced that the tech giant is developing a new AI-powered chatbot, following in the footsteps of other tech companies inspired by the success of OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Zuckerberg made the announcement in a Facebook post on February 27, stating that the focus of the chatbot would be on developing AI personas. Meta joins other tech giants such as Microsoft, Google, and Snapchat in developing their own chatbots powered by AI, with many more planning to do the same, including Tencent and Elon Musk.

Meta’s decision to shift its focus to AI and away from the metaverse has come as a result of disappointing quarterly results, and the company’s 2023 strategy is focused on efficiency, which some have interpreted to mean layoffs.
