AT&T Network Outage Disrupts Service Nationwide, Affecting Calls, Texts, and Internet
Thursday morning saw a significant disruption in AT&T’s network across the United States, leaving numerous customers without the ability to make calls, send texts, or access online services.
While isolated incidents of network issues were reported by Verizon and T-Mobile users, these were not as widespread. Both T-Mobile and Verizon clarified that their networks were operating normally, suggesting the reported disruptions were primarily due to AT&T’s outage impacting cross-network communications.
Reports on DownDetector indicated over 64,000 AT&T customers experienced service interruptions, though this figure only represents self-reported incidents. Despite a brief decline in outage reports early in the morning, numbers climbed again, signaling ongoing disruptions. AT&T confirmed the widespread service interruption but has yet to disclose the cause.
AT&T’s statement highlighted their awareness of the issue: “Some of our customers are experiencing wireless service interruptions this morning. We are working urgently to restore service to them,” encouraging customers to use Wi-Fi calling as a temporary solution.
The company has also been actively engaging with affected customers on social media, directing them to private channels for support.
This outage is part of a series of recent network issues for AT&T, including a notable temporary disruption to 911 services in certain Southeastern regions. While outages are not uncommon, nationwide disruptions of this scale are exceptionally rare.
Local government services have also reported being impacted by the AT&T outage. Various emergency services across the country have issued advisories on alternative ways to contact 911 during the outage, including using landlines, Wi-Fi calling, or texting where possible.
Both Verizon and T-Mobile also observed about 1,000 outage reports each, according to DownDetector, though both companies maintain that their networks were not affected.
“We did not experience an outage. Our network is operating normally,” stated T-Mobile, with Verizon echoing a similar message regarding their network’s status.
As the situation unfolds, AT&T continues to work on restoring full service, with all parties monitoring the developments closely.
