Beat The Winter Blues: Snowflakes and Stock Trades

We are officially in the thick of winter and for some less lucky and probably unretired people, you’re feeling the gloomy chill that incites the winter blues. However, there’s a lot to love about this cold season minus the teeth chatters, taking down all your holiday decorations and getting your EV to start. Even if you’re still fulfilling New Years resolutions, cold weather doesn’t always inspire adventure, so we’ve provided thoughtful winter activity suggestions to keep the blues at bay. If winter isn’t your thing, you can always day trade our ideas to try and boost your 2024 portfolio, because this is your year, until next year…

Winter Wipeout Activities

If you are one of those annoying people who immediately go outside to make snow angels during the first snow of the year, then you likely will be fond of snow sports to boost your winter “coolness”. Our favorite winter sport is curling which entails raising mugs of spiked hot chocolate to our lips while watching wipeouts on the slopes. But if you prefer to be boring, skiing, snowboarding, actual curling or snowmobiling might be your winter jam.

Global outdoor equipment designer, manufacturer and distributor Clarus Corporation (CLAR) has recently announced the sale of its Precision Sport segment which includes Sierra Bullets, L.L.C. and Barnes Bullets – Mona, LLC subsidiaries. The all-cash transaction is expected to produce $175M at closing, which is anticipated to occur in the first quarter. Proceeds will be used to pay down debt with the remainder for general corporate purposes. Over the past year, the stock has been down ~38%.

Netflix En Chill

For those who prefer not to dress in seven layers of clothing to play in the cold, it’s a solid time for snow streaming. If you are an unlucky sucker stuck inside with a few feet of snow outside of your door, it’s probably time to figure out your next show to binge or movie topic marathon. Check out some popular shows to stream such as The Bear, Yellowstone, Loudermilk or the newest True Detective season. If you prefer movies, you can never go wrong with Adam Sandler films.

PRISM AdTech and Media Index streaming stock, fuboTV Inc. (FUBO) recently established a multi-year agreementwith Nexstar Media covering 89 Nexstar-owned local TV stations affiliated with The CW Network, MyNetworkTV, ABC, and independents. The stock has traded up ~18%, over the past year.

Comforting Noods

While being fit is a good way to start the year, eating comfort food when it’s cold always wins. However, no one says you need to opt for lasagna. Soups are a filling and potentially heathy option to fulfill your “fit-tastic” new year plan. We, however, will still opt for lasagna. Mangia!

Noodles and Co (NDLS) can help you get that pasta fix whether it be in sauce or broth. Despite the starchy stock being down ~60% over the past year, the company announced a recap of its 2023 achievements that included new markets and award recognitions which have positioned them for potential success, in the coming year.

Sun Drenched Respites

Some people who get tired of shoveling their cars out of parking spaces, have probably never heard of “dibs” and usually move somewhere warm once they retire. Bad news: you’re typically old by that time. Trust fund kids don’t count. Good news: you don’t have to wait and can still enjoy a sun filled trip to escape your icy climate. It might be the break you need to beat the winter blues while still working for the (wo)man. We love excuses to take vacations.

DiamondRock Hospitality Co (DRH) recently reported third quarter results that were modestly in line with their expectations. Net income was cited at $27.3M, comparable total revenues were $277.1M which was a slight increase from the previous year and the Chico Hot Springs Resort located in Paradise Valley, Montana was acquired for $33M.

Whether you’re building a snowman, sipping hot cider, or planning an island trip, embrace the frigid fun that comes with cold weather. At the very least, you can always permanently beat the winter blues by defrosting your portfolio with some hot picks to live out the rest of your winters, island style.
